HYPER PIGMENTATION

What is Hyperpigmentation?

Hyperpigmentation is a common skin condition where certain areas of the skin become darker than the surrounding skin due to an excess production of melanin (the pigment responsible for skin color). It can appear as dark spots, patches, or an uneven skin tone.

CAUSES

🔹 Sun Exposure – UV rays trigger melanin production, leading to sunspots.
🔹 Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH) – Dark spots left behind after acne, cuts, or burns.
🔹 Hormonal Changes – Conditions like melasma (common during pregnancy or with birth control use).
🔹 Aging – Natural skin aging can cause discoloration.
🔹 Certain Medications or Medical Conditions – Some drugs and diseases can contribute to skin darkening.

HOW TO TREAT IT

Sunscreen (SPF 30+ daily) – Prevents further darkening.
Exfoliation & Brightening Ingredients – Look for Vitamin C, Niacinamide, Kojic Acid, Retinol, and Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs).
Professional TreatmentsChemical peels, laser therapy, microdermabrasion, and facials can help fade discoloration.
